2024 Cliff Robertson Sentinel Award Recipients

First awarded to Oscar-winning actor Cliff Robertson in 2003, the ACFE’s Sentinel Award carries the inscription “For Choosing Truth Over Self.” This award is bestowed annually on a person who, without regard to personal or professional consequences, has publicly disclosed wrongdoing in business or government. Recipients of the Sentinel Award exemplify extraordinary courage and integrity, often facing significant personal and professional risks to bring critical issues to light. Their actions serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of accountability and the vital role whistleblowers play in maintaining the ethical standards of our society.

While employed at the Social Security Administration, Sarah Carver and Jennifer Griffith exposed a massive fraud scheme of more than 550 million dollars. In efforts to silence their disclosures they experienced multiple acts of severe retaliation and were denied protection. Ultimately both Sarah & Jennifer were forced from their employment with the Social Security Administration.

    I have been extremely fortunate to meet a lot of courageous people in my thirty years with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, and Jennifer Griffith and Sarah Carver are at the top of that list. They are two of the finest people I know, and I still do not know how they had the strength and fortitude to continue  fighting to expose fraud at the US Social Security Administration despite suffering harassment and retaliation. It’s been an honor to work with them on several projects including a documentary film about their tribulations and facilitating speaking appearances at ACFE events. Their story is enlightening and inspiring. It has been a real pleasure to work with them and share their story.
